The EA-era of Star Wars games was far from flawless. In fact, it’s a shorter list to name the successful titles than the canceled or lackluster ones. The bright spot in the exclusivity contract’s duration is the Star Wars: Jedi series from Respawn. With two great games in the series, Director Stig Asmussen left Respawn to start his own studio. As it turns out, he and his new team are helming a new single-player narrative-driven game.

Stig Asmussen served as the game director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: SurvivorAsmussen told IGN that the goal of the new project is to encourage and reward player choices, as well as seek new avenues to provide players “ownership in the game and agency as they’re playing it.” Asmussen also served as Director for God of War III. With his resume and a new 30-person team, there’s a lot of potential in his new studio.

The studio Asmussen founded is called Giant Skull, based in Los Angeles. Much of the team also comes with him from Respawn and the Jedi games. While the new title won’t take place in a galaxy far, far away, there’s a lot of potential for a single-player, narrative-driven game from this team solely because of Respawn’s reputation. Their preceding series,  Titanfall, is still lauded as a beloved and fan-favorite franchise.

There’s a lot that can go right when creatives launch their own studios and there’s a lot that can go wrong. Hopefully, thanks to the reputation of Asmussen and many who followed him, Giant Skull will be a success story stemming from some of the best Star Wars games of all time.
