It’s always great to have something to look forward to on the horizon. While I spent most of 2023 going to work on my backlog, there were still some games that got announced for 2024 that I just know I’ll be dropping what I’m doing and playing on day one. Whether they come from one of my favorite genres or have trailers/demos that have massively piqued my interest, the games in this article are ones in particular that are above the rest for me and may prove to be high on my game of the year list come this time next year. So, what games are they?

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor

My favorite demo I’d played in 2023 was for the upcoming Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. I already love the base game, so when a Bullet Heaven was announced, it was a perfect match for me. Even with the demo being an early representation of the final game, it played like a dream and had enough unique elements and assets retained from Deep Rock Galactic to make for an instant classic experience. I’m certain there’s some crossover for fans of DRG and Vampire Survivors, so I’ll be thrilled to see this game get some buzz with the looming Q1 2024 release window.

Trash Goblin

The Wholesome Directs this year previewed a ton of games I’ll have on my radar, but its standout for me was Trash Goblin. In this cute title, you assume the role of a monster shopkeeper who tinkers away at loot and gets it ready for sale. It looks like a blast for those who love turning their brain off and satisfyingly whittling away at a knick-knack, plus interact with a colorful cast and encounter tons of upgrades to keep you reeled in. Set for 2024, I can’t wait to be a trash goblin.

Antipaint

Equal parts action roguelite and Mario Paint, I can’t wait to get my hands on Antipaint. This might be one of the most vibrant-looking titles I’ve seen in ages. Sometimes just the premise is enough to sell people on a game, and this is absolutely the case here. I just upgraded to the best monitor I’ve ever had, so I’m thrilled to see paintings come to life tacked on with some Rogue-lite progression. Releasing sometime in 2024, this has a lot of potential to blow up if it’s marketed right. Even if it isn’t, I have a feeling it’ll be a hidden gem and I’ll enjoy it either way.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II

Warhammer: Space Marine II was originally set for December of 2023, but had a lengthy delay to September of 2024. This is fine with me, as if we’ve learned anything from AAA games in recent years, developers need all the time they can get to deliver a finished product. This sequel is now 13 years in the making and assuming the role of Captain Titus is the thing I’m most looking forward to doing in 2024, provided the rest of this game’s development goes smoothly. Here’s hoping it gets into our hands in the year of 2024.
