Gaming alone is fun, but I find myself having the most fun with friends in tow. Having grown up on sleepovers with Mario Party, I was thrilled to find a title like it in Pummel Party that my friends had recommended to play. What started as a few game sessions turned into a tradition in no time at all, as Pummel Party proved to be an easy source for laughs and merriment that never seemed to get old. Several years past release, Rebuilt Games is still working on the game and improving it, so it’s also something we’ll be playing for years to come. So why is it so addictive?

Pummel Party supports up to eight players, but even a group of three or four can have an absolute blast with this game. Turn order is set dynamically every turn by the placement of the previous minigame, to encourage winning as much as possible.

Sabotaging your friends is easier than ever, as items can hurt or even wipe them off the map, setting them far away from crowns. You can even turn in the crowns you’ve won for fancy new capes; I love the fire one personally. The only issue I take with the game is that servers always seem to fail after fifteen or so turns, losing our progress in the process. Better servers are definitely needed.

There are dozens of amazing minigames in Pummel Party, with only 1 or 2 being annoying to get through. On top of that, Pummel Party has added mod support, and has a fairly active community providing new minigames and even entire maps to play on.

This has massively extended the playtime for my friends and I, as these are as easy as a few clicks and some loading screens to add them into the game instead of having to dive into the file paths and directories. Not only are they great additions, but these are a great way for burgeoning developers to cut their teeth on game dev and make a name for themselves in an already-popular property.

When my friends and I fire up Pummel Party, it’s a foregone conclusion that we’re going to have a good time. It doesn’t really matter who wins or loses; the absurdity and ridiculousness happens every time and creates a laugh factory that just cannot be had in single-player experiences. We enjoy other party games, like Party Animals and Crab Game, but the reigning champ for the foreseeable future is unequivocally Pummel Party. You can even do local multiplayer if online connections aren’t your thing.

I’ve spent two days of my life playing Pummel Party and that number is sure to go up. At an easy $14.99, it’s something your group of four could easily invest in, as the game runs on most computers without a hitch. Add on a ton of mods with the conveniently placed mod explorer in-game or on the Steam Workshop, and it’s an instant recipe for fun that I could not recommend more. And for that reason, we’ll be playing it as long as we can.
