In recent months, I have been vocal about how localization goes hand in hand with accessibility. For people with text-related visual accessibility problems, a lack of dubbing in their native language can be difficult to deal with when trying to enjoy a game. It seems that Ryu Ga Gotoku has gotten the message, though Like a Dragon Gaiden players will have to wait until after launch to reap the benefits.

When Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name releases next month on November 9th, it will not have an English dub available. This was confirmed in a tweet by Kiryu Kazuma’s English voice actor Yong Yea over the weekend. At launch, you will only be able to play with Japanese audio and English subtitles.

Currently, we don’t know when the English dub will come, but it will be made available in a post-launch patch. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will follow Kiryu between the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Like a Dragon. It will be released on PC, as well as current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Interestingly enough, Yong Yea also revealed some curious details about Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s potential English audio. While he was cagey about the topic due to not wanting to violate any terms of his contract with the studio, he commented on the topic, stating:

For Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, I don’t know what I can and can’t say, so I’ll relay what’s currently public. If you go to its Steam listing, English audio is checkmarked, suggesting simultaneous release for Japanese and English dubs. Pumped for y’all to play it on 1/24/2024!

I really do hope that Yong Yea’s assertion is correct and that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will also be getting an English dub. Seemingly small elements like that are vital to making games more enjoyable, and the Like a Dragon franchise is a truly special experience. Either way, Like a Dragon fans have a lot to look forward to over the next few months.
