After the recent update and DLC for American Truck Simulator, I think like many I’ve been driving from state to state a lot lately. Including with a couple of mods, one of which seems pertinent right now. Following the release of the Oklahoma DLC you can now go to such esteemed places as Oklahoma City and other places that are totally at the top of my list when I think of Oklahoma. To be honest, after almost a week of driving around, including the newest addition to the map, I don’t think I could name another city in Oklahoma but I could sing the chorus to it.

Last week, we got an update on what is next, kind of. On Friday (some of us have been busy), there was an update literally “Introducing Nebraska” over on Steam. It was a typical post for these updates on what is next and what to expect from the upcoming DLC maps. Showcasing the beautiful work-in-progress screenshots, featuring Nebraska landmarks like that one grain-silo and that other grain-silo. I joke, but The Great Plains are plains for a reason. There might be a couple of hills and rivers but no mountains and cavernous canyons to glance at while driving by.

Nebraska’s vast and diverse landscape consists of prairies, rolling hills, and the crucial Platte River,” the update points out. They continue with: “While hauling cargo through the Cornhusker State along historic routes, you will have many opportunities to witness iconic landmarks and truly immerse yourself in the state’s spirit, from its pioneer history to the modern energy of cities full of ever-growing industries. Our goal is for the DLC to offer a fusion of peaceful landscapes and the rhythm of a buzzing economy that’s unlike any other.” Though that doesn’t mean we’re heading there just yet.

As previously announced and as I thought I’d written about before, following on from where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain we’re heading north. However, we’ve still got to cover Kansas first. Who knew that’s where Kansas was? All this time I thought it was a place only in a wicked witch’s nightmares. I’ll stop with the musical references now. There is no word on when Kansas will open up to your trucking empire, though we did get a hint of when Nebraska might appear: “[T]he project is still in a fairly early phase and everything is a work in progress.”

No, we can’t say exactly when, but given we got a massive lump of the map last November in Texas following the first DLC of the year in August in the shape of Montana, assumptions can be made. Chances are Kansas will appear very late this year or very early next, with Nebraska more than several months away. As the update itself points out, there isn’t much more to say on that topic given it is so early in development. However, I know I’m excited as we’re all planning on motoring East, unlike what Chuck Berry sang. That’s the last music reference, I promise!
