Red Dead Redemption Heading to Switch

2010’s Red Dead Redemption is an incredible release in Rockstar Games’ near-flawless library of games. The sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, might be a generational title, but the first entry in the duology also deserves love. Nintendo Switch owners will soon be able to bring the game on the go thanks to a surprise announcement that Red Dead Redemption and its expansion Undead Nightmare are coming to the Switch and PS4 in a few weeks. Here’s what we know about this upcoming release.

At the time of its release, Red Dead Redemption was an Xbox 360 exclusive. Now, the game is coming to PS4 and Switch as a port by UK developer Double Eleven Studios. The game will be backward compatible on PS5 as well. The game is not getting any sort of remake treatment, but it does support a few new languages like Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish.

The game will cost $49.99 for Switch and PS4 digitally and is set to release on August 17th. A physical edition of the game for both consoles will follow on October 13th. There is surprisingly no announcement for PC, of which there is currently no version of the game. It seems like it’d be relatively easy to also put it out on PC if you’re doing the Switch and PS4 versions, but I’m sure there are development reasons for limiting it to consoles at this time.

Undead Nightmare, the zombie add-on to the game that is insanely entertaining, is also coming in this package. Personally, I had my fingers crossed that we’d eventually see a remaster of this game, and I guess that’s still a possibility. For now, I’m hoping that performance reviews on the Switch are positive so that I can bring this game with me on the go.
