With Mortal Kombat 1 only a month and a half away, announcements and reveals are starting to come out at a nice pace. We had a trailer earlier this month that revealed Smoke and Rain being part of the main roster. Additionally, just a little over a week ago we had one trailer for Li Mei and Tanya and another for the official Kombat Pack DLC reveal. While the former has left fans wondering what other characters they might bring back and the latter has some of us wondering what other guest fighters could join, it turns out the next reveal is for a relatively new character in the franchise, Geras.

This character had his debut in Mortal Kombat 11. He was a henchman villain in the story mode who served under Kronika, the ultimate baddie of the game. While the main story gave him a seemingly fitting end, the Aftermath expansion left it a bit more open. The semantics of his MK11 story might not matter too much in the grand scheme of resculpted timelines though as he’s addressed as Fire God Liu Kang’s friend in this trailer. There are also some hints of the story during his conversation with Liu Kang, including the implication that the latter has been in this role for quite a while.

What’s a lot easier to understand is his gameplay. Geras doesn’t seem to be lugging around giant sand fists as much anymore and instead uses his time and sand construct powers in new ways. We see him summoning new objects to smash opponents into and using counters to freeze his opponents in time for a few hits. His fatality is also pretty gruesome, although the second one shown for Liu Kang might just be the most over-the-top and gruesome fatality we’ve seen.

With Evo 2023 coming up this weekend, there is a possibility that another new trailer could be shown off. There’s no telling who it might be, but we’ll keep you updated as any more new Mortal Kombat 1 announcements are made.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
