It was nearly three months ago that we were seeing the third season of Gundam Evolution ending, with a fourth season on the way. It was quite a busy time as they were just about to put out their third unit in a row across three months. The fourth season has run its course since then and now players have something new to look forward to. The fifth Gundam Evolution season, going by the name Storm, is now live and brings with it a new unit from a fan-favorite series.

Headlining the update is the Susanowo. This unit comes from the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 series, making it the third to be added after Gundam Exia and Gundam Dynames, as well as the second in a row after the latter. The samurai-inspired mobile suit is another melee unit that excels at close range, although it has skills to help it at medium range. Its primary weapons are its dual-enhanced sabers, which hit twice with every swing. The secondary weapon is the charging Beam Chakram which adds a slowing effect to enemies.

When it comes to skills, the first active skill is a high-speed melee attack that deals more damage to slowed enemies. The second skill is the Tri-Punisher, which is a beam attack that also slows enemy units. Its passive skill, “I Fight to Live!” adds 400 armor points for every kill or kill assist made. Finally, its TRANS-AM G Maneuver mainly serves to change properties on everything. Those previously mentioned sabers will now count as one hit, the Beam Chakram will send out two projectiles, and its Tri-Punisher has a quicker cooldown. The high-speed melee attack skill also gains two uses in TRANS-AM.

Aside from the typical bevy of new content being added to the season pass and supply pods, there have been some general changes. Units that can use a shield are seeing a buff with boost gauge recovery, while those with single-shot weapons will have their bullet sizes increased. Some of the ceilings on the Thermal Plant map have also been leveled out to prevent any flying units from getting stuck.

Lastly, the Headquarters mode is seeing a variety of changes to make matches shorter. The victory condition has been set to three points and a defending team will no longer score if their core is at least half destroyed, just to name a few differences. In order to see how these changes pan out, the mode will only be playable in casual for now. If you’d like to see things gone over in even more detail, check out the mission briefing below. A more comprehensive breakdown in text form can also be read with the official release notes.

Samuel Moreno

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
