Hyper Light Breaker Early Access Announced

In March of last year, Hyper Light Breaker was first announced. This game is an open-world co-op roguelike set within the universe of Hyper Light Drifter, a popular indie action RPG released back in 2016. Hyper Light Drifter was ported to the Nintendo Switch back in 2018 and received high praise from critics and general audiences. This week, Hyper Light Breaker debuted the first glimpse of actual gameplay since the announcement.

The footage came with the announcement that the game will be entering early access on Steam this Fall. This gameplay trailer is extremely impressive with absolutely stunning visuals and flashy combat. The enemy designs are also top-notch. Hyper Light Breaker is also being published by Gearbox, known for the Borderlands games and pioneers of the “looter shooter” subgenre. That pedigree seems to be translated quite well just from the brief glimpse as the trailer shows off dozens of weapons and traversal options.

Hyper Light Breaker is set within the science fiction dystopian world of Overgrowth. You are a breaker, a warrior tasked with restoring peace to the realm. Over the course of the game, you can explore the world, fight monsters, collect gear, and create various builds while playing solo or with friends. The major story puts you and your friends against the forces of the almighty Abyss King.

I never played the original title, but this trailer has me interested. I’m quite excited to try this out on release and encourage you to wishlist it on Steam. It’s always great seeing independent development studios like Heart Machine reach new highs amongst the gaming giants of the modern marketplace. Hopefully, Hyper Light Breaker can breathe new life into the rogue-like genre once more.
