It’s always sad when a multiplayer game is sunset, especially when it’s pretty early in the work’s lifecycle. EA announced that they would be sunsetting Apex Legends Mobile on May 1st as well as canceling development on Battlefield Mobile. Regrettably, (and coincidentally on the same day) developer Iron Galaxy Studios also announced that their F2P game Rumbleverse would be taken offline when season 2 ends on February 28th. It will be sunset just a little over six months since its launch.

A final update has already gone live to open up everything. The season 2 battle pass is now unlocked for everyone along with double XP and additional emotes. Quads, Trios, Duos, and Solos game modes are also live so players can group up with as many others as they want. Refunds will also be provided for anyone that purchased a battle pass or the Brawlla Bills currency.

Although it has been a unique take on the genre, that can always be a double-edged sword in an oversaturated market. Player numbers likely dropped off over time as well, which would be expected for most live-service titles. Still, much of the community that formed around the wrestling-based battle royale has been taken by surprise.

A mid-season update went live just a couple of weeks ago and included a lot of content such as new items and the aforementioned Quads mode. Earlier this month, a ratings board also listed a Nintendo Switch version too. How far along plans were to bring it to the platform is unknown since it was never officially announced. However, it does paint a picture of a game with a lot of ongoing work. An open letter from the development team does lay out a spark of hope that this might not truly be the end for Rumbleverse. While this seems to imply that it could come back with a different publisher, for now, it’ll end on a bittersweet note.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
