Over a month ago, Easy Day Studios released the Open Alpha for Skater XL’s map editor. Deciding to allow players to test the tools publicly, sharing bugs as well as custom creations, the development team opened it up to their players rather than keeping it under wraps. Now it seems that PlayStation and Xbox consoles are getting their chance to make maps to skate on as well.

According to the press release, “Easy Day Studios has announced that the Skater XL DIY Map Editor Alpha is available today on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Players may now place, move, and delete skateable objects on maps for both single and multiplayer game modes. From laying down ramps to filming your own custom lines to creating elaborate obstacle courses live with online friends, SkaterXL’s DIY Map Editor champions freedom of skating expression and creativity like never before.

To access the mode on consoles, players must enable the ‘DIY Map Editor Alpha’ from the game’s Settings Menu. Once in-game, push and hold the Triangle button (PS4) or Y button (Xbox One) to enter the DIY Map Editor from the Main Menu.

Personally, I love games that add either mod support or custom levels/maps. I think it adds a layer of community engagement and depth to a game. It also tends to add to the game’s proverbial lifespan, since players and the community can add content long after the developers have run out of ideas or things to add.

I think this could very well be another hit for the Skater XL dev team. Fans of games like Skate and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater are already flocking to it, why not add some user-generated content to make it even more fun? Good on ya Easy Day Studios!
