On the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that the last character joining the fray in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be revealed yesterday. Speculations were all over the place, but a majority of them were actually right on the money. It makes sense, considering this is the most wished-for character and has been for at least the past six years.

Some of you may remember that six years ago Nintendo started a poll asking consumers who they wanted to see as a playable character in Smash. The winner of said poll turns out to be the final character to join the roster of 89 characters and they’ve kept this secret for all this time. I’m personally assuming it’s not just because they wanted to surprise us, but also because Nintendo didn’t actually think it would ever happen, considering how hard Disney tends to be to work with.

I don’t even know why I’m beating around the bush since everyone will know by the time this article goes up. The final character to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is none other than Sora from the beloved Kingdom Hearts-Franchise. I couldn’t be happier with this announcement, since this is the character I’ve wished for since forever. That is, along with Banjo and Kazooie, who we also get to play in the game.

Not only does Sora join the fight, but the Kingdom Hearts games will be coming to Nintendo Switch in the form of the three collections that have also fairly recently been released on PC via the Epic Games Store. They will all be available via a cloud version, which makes sense considering the Nintendo Switch’s limited capabilities. Either way, I know this news will make a lot of people very happy.

With this big announcement out of the way, I suppose it’s time for the smaller stuff. There are going to be three new Mii Fighter-costumes releasing along with Sora on October 18th. Two of them consist of characters from the Splatoon-universe, while the third one is none other than Doomguy. While this is a nice treat, I know it will leave a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths.

Last but not least, there was some amiibo-related news as well. While we won’t be getting a Sora-themed amiibo, Sakurai reminded us that the Steve and Alex amiibo will be releasing some time next year, while amiibo for Sephiroth, Pyra, Mythra and Kazuya are also in development.

That’s all the announcements we got during this last presentation for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It’s the end of an era in a way, and I can’t wait to see what the next installment of this giant franchise will bring. However, I’m sure we’ll have to wait at least a couple of years for that.

Hey there! I'm Aaron, 26 and from Germany. I mostly play games with a stronger emphasis on a good story, but occasionally can be found delving into a genre I'm not too accustomed to. Diversity and accessibility are important aspects in gaming for me as well, which are always important conversations to have for me personally.
