Battlefield 2042, the newest entry in the Battlefield franchise, has been delayed till November 19th according to an announcement from EA on Wednesday. This is nearly a month delay from the original release date of October 22nd.

Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams,” said Oskar Gabrielson, DICE studio GM, in a press release on Wednesday. “Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.”

In the same statement, Gabrielson mentioned that news regarding the open beta will be shared later this month. This could mean that the leaked open beta date of September 22nd may still hold true. However, it is most likely that the beta will occur sometime in October.

This adds Battlefield 2042 to the long list of games that have been delayed due to COVID-19. Other games that were delayed due to the ongoing pandemic include Guilty Gear Strive which was pushed back from late 2020 to April 2021. Deathloop was also pushed back twice from its 2020 release date to its launch this past Tuesday, September 14th.
