Final Fantasy IV is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games, especially out of the classic library of the first six games. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the 3D graphics of the Steam version that is already out. However, if you’ve had your eye on the set of Pixel Remasters that is being made of the first six games, you won’t have much longer to wait for Final Fantasy IV.
Yesterday, Square Enix announced that the Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy IV will be releasing on Steam and Mobile on September 8th. You will be able to enjoy Cecil’s story of redemption with allies such as Rydia the Summoner, his beloved Rosa, and more. Here is what comes with the new Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy IV according to the press release.
“This latest version of FINAL FANTASY IV brings the original release to life with improvements and updates, including:
- Universally updated 2D pixel graphics redrawn for modern hardware, featuring iconic FINAL FANTASY character pixel designs created by the original artist and current collaborator, Kazuko Shibuya
- Beautifully rearranged soundtracks, overseen by the original composer, Nobuo Uematsu
- Improved gameplay, including updated controller controls, modernized UI, auto-battle options, and more
- Quality-of-life improvements including supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery, music player, and the ability to save at any time”
You can also purchase the Pixel Remasters in a single bundle, though the unreleased games in the bundle will not be made available until their release dates. If you pre-order Final Fantasy IV’s Pixel Remaster on Steam, you will also get various pre-order incentives including “three specially rearranged music tracks, two limited wallpapers, and a 20% discount.”
Personally, I think if you already own Final Fantasy IV on Steam, this isn’t really necessary. The 3D version that was previously made available plays like a dream, and I’ve spent many hours in it. However, if you prefer this pseudo-retro look, then maybe this remaster is right up your alley.

January 16, 2022 - 8:29 amIt’s been 14 years since this trailer was released to the world. And four years since ffxv has been released but people like myself and others still watch this trailer like it’s was 2006/7. Seriously ff vs xiii would of been a masterpiece still we ff fans and gamers still come back and marvel at the beautiful vsxiii trailer every month or so.
Even if the original idea never came to fruition through a video game, I would love to be able to see this story as a novelisation, because this story had so much potential and I just want to know what happened!!!
