I’m always keeping my eyes open for new farming games. The genre has expanded pretty far in recent years, with games like Stardew Valley, My Time At Portia, and Slime Rancher being just a few that do something a little different with the formula. Now it seems the farming genre is going to a cosmic frontier, with Lightyear Frontier by developers FRAME BREAK and Amplifier Game Invest. While we don’t have release dates yet, we know that Lightyear Frontier will be coming both to PC (in Early Access) and Xbox at some point.

Here is what the press release has to say about Lightyear Frontier so far. “Lightyear Frontier invites you (and your friends in up to 4-player co-op) to grow a cornucopia of cosmic resources and use your fresh harvest to improve your mech equipment. As you become a seasoned farmer with a souped-up mech, you’ll soon be able to grow rare plants and further explore previously inaccessible environments… and maybe uncover a mystery on this new planet.

Blending farming features with crafting, resource management, and base building, Lightyear Frontier’s alien planet is yours to transform and mold. While you’ll be safe on this new planet (thanks to the advice of PIP-3R, your trusty scanner satellite), your crops will need all the help they can get: from dealing with the ever-changing weather to keeping the local wildlife away, you will need to take a few precautions to safeguard your home on this new frontier.

It is cool to see a farming game embrace multiplayer from the start, while still intending for Lightyear Frontier to be a viable single-player experience. Let’s hope the Early Access period doesn’t steer the game too far in the multiplayer-only direction. However, FRAME BREAK has stated that they will be interacting with the community during the Early Access period, so they will likely take player feedback.
