Last week, I talked about The Ramp, a low-key skating game. Today is a great day for more social skating fans, rather than more laid-back ones. Skater XL just got a new update on PC and consoles, allowing for Online Multiplayer for up to 10 players. The Skater XL Free Skate mode lets 10 people skate together, allowing social skating from the comfort of your couch or computer chair.

Here is what the press release has to say about the mode, as well as the other items in the update: “The Skater XL Online Multiplayer Free Skate Mode allows players to join a random public room or start their own and invite friends to join using a passcode. Adding to the experience, the same replay editor functionality found in single-player can be used in the new online mode, giving players the ability to save and edit group party lines, individual tricks, and memorable in-game events.

The update also includes months of work on performance improvements for consoles, with increased frame rate and a significantly smoother feel to gameplay, especially on base model units. Whether it’s mastering a complex trick line in DTLA offline, or soaring off the Big Ramp with a squad online, Skater XL’s gameplay and controls are feeling better than ever.

Need some fresh new gear to premiere during an online Skater XL session? We got you covered as this update includes new shoes from New Balance and éS Footwear, as well as an apparel capsule from Dickies with more gear and accessories on the way.

With the controversy surrounding Activision-Blizzard, I think it’s unlikely that we’ll get a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game from them anytime soon, and I’m not even sure if we should. Luckily, games like Skater XL, Skatebird, and The Ramp will keep skating fans going for a while.
