During the April 14th Indie World Direct from Nintendo, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals was announced. Fans of the original have been ecstatic, waiting for more information beyond the fact that it is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch. Now, the developers have added PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 to that list of launch consoles, along with a vague update to the release.

Originally, the trailer intended Oxenfree II: Lost Signals to release in 2021. Now it seems that has shifted to a 2022 release window. Oxenfree II is set five years after the original game, with an all-new cast of characters and an original storyline. Here is what the press release has to say about the upcoming sequel.

OXENFREE II: Lost Signals follows the story of Riley, an environmental researcher who returns to her hometown, Camena, to investigate mysterious radio frequency signals causing disturbances in electronic equipment throughout the small town. She soon discovers a long history of ghostly happenings on the nearby Edwards Island and becomes entangled in a frightening, supernatural mystery. Featuring Night School Studio’s signature, naturalistic dialogue system, OXENFREE II: Lost Signals gives players more agency to shape their experience in unexpected ways.”

The Co-Founder and Studio Director at Night School Studio, Sean Krankel commented on the PlayStation announcement, stating: “Launching OXENFREE II on PlayStation is a perfect fit. Now even more players can explore the beautifully weird and eerie world our team is creating.

With OXENFREE II: Lost Signals, we want players to carve out their own story in a frightening new location. We are crafting an adventure that builds on the mind-bending, choice-based storytelling of the original while introducing a new cast and series of dangerous mysteries for players to unravel.

Admittedly, I haven’t had a chance to play the original Oxenfree yet. However, Oxenfree II looks like it is going to be fantastic. I’m going to have to dig into it before the 2022 release date. I would like to guess that the release would be earlier in 2022 rather than later, but it is too soon to tell.
