There has been some weirdness surrounding the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, particularly in regard to ports that are being delisted. However, Square Enix has officially brought the first three games in the Pixel Remaster collection to Steam and Mobile devices. Here is what comes with the Pixel Remaster versions of each game, according to the press release:

  • Universally updated 2D pixel graphics redrawn for modern hardware, featuring iconic FINAL FANTASY character pixel designs created by the original artist and current collaborator, Kazuko Shibuya
  • Beautifully rearranged soundtracks, overseen by the original composer, Nobuo Uematsu
  • Improved gameplay, including modernized UI, auto-battle options, and more
  • Quality-of-life improvements including supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery, music player, and the ability to save at any time

Steam users who purchase any of the three games (or the bundle) before August 11th will receive several bonuses. According to the press release, these bonuses include: “three specially rearranged music tracks, two exclusive wallpapers and a 20% discount per each respective title. These special tracks transition from the original versions to the new arrangements and can only be obtained via early purchase until 11th August on individual titles or via the bundle on Steam.”

Personally, aside from the ability to save anywhere, and the fact that Final Fantasy I and II weren’t on Steam before, I don’t think this is all that worth it. However, if you prefer the graphics from this Pixel Remaster, then it might be worth it for you. Either way, we’re still waiting to hear about the release dates for IV, V, and VI, so hopefully, people won’t have to wait too much longer.

Is the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster something you’re interested in? We’d really like to know, so hit us up on Twitter, or even comment here and let us know if you are excited. Alternately, let us know why you are against this set of remasters, I’m really curious to see what people think.
