The generation jump between PS3 and PS4 was pretty simple, sports games continued for a while as typical triple-A releases steadily dropped off. This isn’t anything new, the generation before also had this, though at a slightly slower rate as more people owned a PS2 than you’ve had hot dinners. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S continue to be in limited stock, though Sony believes this will change, not in the near future, but eventually. The PS4’s reported 115.9-million unit sales, according to Sony, to the PS5’s 7.8-million means the cross-generation might last slightly longer than you’d hope to believe.

To some, this is going to hamper games, with the PS4 being a brick tied to the ankle of games. While not all games, such as Sony’s Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart or Returnal for example, are coming to the PS4, it turns out a few other titles are coming to the old wheezing box of angular hatred. In the latest edition of the Official PlayStation Podcast, with some questions transcribed on the PlayStation Blog, the head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst had a few interesting comments about the impending Ragnarok and roar of V8s in Gran Turismo 7.

When speaking of the over 110-million PS4 users, Hulst said they are “very much” part of the future of PlayStation for the foreseeable future of gaming. Pointing out that it isn’t a smart idea to build such a large and diverse community, then all of a sudden, cast them aside; saying it is “not very good [for] business.” Hulst would go on to say, “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5, for [example,] Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7, we’ll continue looking at that.” Later going on to highlight that it is also important for the company to also feature “showpieces” for the PS5 such as the aforementioned Rift Apart and Returnal.

This is the first confirmation that Kratos will be ripping Thor a new Ragnarok in his bum alongside the latest Gran Turismo to be coming to PS4. However, as announced just the other day, Santa Monica Studios has delayed the proposed release of Ragnarok from sometime in 2021 to “shift our release window to 2022.” This news comes months after Sony revealed that the still raging COVID-19 pandemic has hampered the development of Gran Turismo 7, which was scheduled to also release this year on PS5. However, in February, the game was also delayed into 2022.

Though, this isn’t the only news that comes from this just over an hour-long interview. Hulst was also asked about PC ports, such as the recently released Days Gone. “We’re still early on in our planning for PC,” Hulst said, going on to say, “But I want to emphasize that PlayStation will remain the best place to play our PlayStation Studios titles at launch.” He noted the two-year gap between PS4 and PC releases of Days Gone, but did go on to state, “Releasing games on PC will not come ever at the expense of building an exciting lineup of great console games.”
