Nintendo had a few things to unveil today, May 11th, without the need for a Direct or even a Mini Direct. Via their YouTube channel, there’s some more things down the pipeline that fans are sure to be excited for. Ahead is a new mod for Minecraft in the theme of Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon, and a rerelease of both Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol in one package, slated for later this year.

Minecraft has never shied away from adding themes to its block-building gameplay. Just recently, I booted up a very old version: the Xbox 360 Minecraft, and found pre-installed levels for franchises like Fallout and Pirates of the Carribean. The newest addition (available now) is for Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon. The Vikings and dragons fit like a glove in the pixel aesthetic, and it seems as natural a crossover as could be for younger fans of each.

The other announcement I’m particularly excited for is a collection of both Zombies Ate My Neighbors and its sequel Ghoul Patrol. It is a classic pair of games from five console generations ago and these overhead action titles are still a blast to this day. Rescuing civilians and avoiding the undead in a spooky-yet-goofy world, there are dozens of levels to fully explore with that classic 90’s difficulty level. They will be a welcome addition to any fan’s library when it arrives on June 29th.

Nintendo always seems to announce things out of nowhere. I find myself frequently looking back to an older Direct where resident Deadly Premonition fan Matt McMuscles fell out of his chair at the completely-unexpected announcement of its sequel. They always seem to have something on the horizon to keep fans playing! Here’s hoping this opens up more accessibility to modern Lucasfilm Games remasters/rereleases, as the studio was full of fantastic games in its heyday!
