Well, isn’t this an amusing coincidence? Just about a week ago, I wrote about Valve having sprung yet another leak concerning the dates of this year’s Steam Summer Sale. Now, I’ve found myself with information about a rumor which claims that Blizzard Entertainment may have accidentally leaked a release date for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic. This news comes from the venerable WoW fansite known as Wowhead.

Keeping tabs on this sort of thing has always been Wowhead’s wheelhouse, so I’m not surprised to see that they picked up on this rumor as soon as evidence of it was shared on Reddit. Essentially, what this rumor boils down to is that a Reddit user shared screenshots of their Battle.net launcher which initially showed an article published by Blizzard. This article claimed directly in its title that The Burning Crusade Classic would apparently release on Tuesday, June 1st, 2021.

However, the article in question and any reference to it within the Battle.net client has since been removed. This leads me to echo the words of caution that Wowhead included in their article. More specifically, even in the screenshots in question, there was no clarification as to whether that June 1st date would be the actual release of TBC Classic or just a pre-patch in preparation for its launch.

Furthermore, even if the article seen in those screenshots was legitimate, Blizzard could have taken it down for any number of reasons. For example, consider the release of Warcraft III: Reforged. That event sets precedent for Blizzard publicly announcing and then promptly missing an important release date, after all. It’s possible that Blizzard accidentally released the article early, before confirming that they could actually make that June 1st release date a reality. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when June first rolls around.

WOW TBC Classic deserves a lot of credit, the sheer amount of raid content is very challenging for new players.
