Normally, I wouldn’t cover these things, as I do enough similar articles in weekly series and otherwise to make up for this, but we’re in dry February. It is like dry January, but more stressful as this is when games should be releasing, and the news is still as dry as it was the month prior. Though, as we creep through the short month of February, the new additions for the subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, have been announced.

PC – Code Vein

Coming this Thursday, February 18th, for PC players, you can join the world of anime Dark Souls in Bandai Namco’s Code Vein. The Souls-like action-RPG was released back in mid-2019, receiving mixed reviews at the time. Blending the pretty cel-shaded anime-style with the gothic/cosmic horrors of Dark SoulsCode Vein is everything you think it is and more.

Cloud and consoles – Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire – Ultimate Edition

Staying with RPGs and the same date, in fact; Players on console and those looking to get their cloud gaming on can fire up Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire – Ultimate Edition. First released back in mid-2018 for PC following a well-funded crowdfunding campaign, players can explore the world of Obsidian’s homage to classic PC isometric RPGs in the sequel to the first Pillars of Eternity game. With the Ultimate Edition, you’ll be able to explore the updated and expanded world of Deadfire.

Cloud, PC, and, console – Wreckfest

Now we’re talking! I’ve reviewed Wreckfest on this site, and I’ve done a “review” for our YouTube channel (linked above). The latter of which is just a series of stupidly over-the-top clips of destruction featured in the game. From lawnmower destruction derbies, rings of fire, some motorized sofas, and a couple of combine harvesters, it is filled with this French thing “debris,” which I keep being told to clean up. Bugbear’s fantastic banger-racer that succeeds at being a sequel to Burnout is the best comedy racing game currently available. It is now with Game Pass from the 18th on.

Cloud and Console – Killer Queen Black

From the 23rd of February, console and cloud players will be able to play Liquid bit’s platforming strategy and co-op party game, Killer Queen Black. Released in late 2019, this game of quick matches lets you face off with other players either side-by-side on a couch (2-meters apart!) or online, and attempt to kill each other. Akin to the likes of Nidhogg, you’ll face off with friends on a rather simple-looking background, platforming and trying to one-up each other.

Cloud, PC, and console – Dirt 5

This is another I’ve done a video and a written review on. Dirt 5 is the latest in the lengthy series that dates back to when Colin McRae was one of the fastest men on dirt, roads, and gravel. A bit flashy and a bit loud, there’s a lot of luminescent pinks, yellows, and other bright colors; which takes the game in a lighter tone than previous serious releases in the series. Releasing late last year, it was (and still is) one of the few “next-gen” racers available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, though with a simple photo mode, PS4 and Xbox One copies of the game can still look great. For this one, you’ll be waiting until the 25th of February.

Console – Elite Dangerous

Also coming to Game Pass on the 25th is my fifth space love, Elite Dangerous. Arguably, more of a PC affair, the space-based flight-simulator is every one of those lonesome space adventure novels come-to-life, with you at the heart of it. An epic in every way, the sheer volume is hard to put into words, I’ve tried. Frontier’s re-creation of the entire milky-way filled with space pirates, shipping exploits, and black markets play a part in your own adventure; It is every sci-fi fan’s dream.

PC – Superhot: Mind Control Delete

The final game coming this month is also appearing on the 25th, and it is the third installment in the brilliant “SUPER-HOT, SUPER-HOT” series where time only moves when you do. It is a monochromatic version of every dream 80s action-movie fight you’ve ever wanted to be part of, as you throw a dart across the bar, crack another’s skull with a pool cue, and have a sip of your beer before chucking the glass at the barman. In short, the Superhot series is every man’s fantasy of those times they got beat up a bit.

Along with this, Microsoft also noted in these announcements that Monster Hunter: World has released onto their Xbox Cloud Gaming service. From the 18th you’ll also be able to play: Bridge Constructor PortalMorkreddNeoverseNowhere ProphetSpiritfarerThe Little Acre, and Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, all of which are coming to the service.
