The Elder Scrolls Online is one of the online gaming community’s most underrated titles. I think when I first tried the game, I had very low expectations. While I don’t play it often, I love jumping in now and then to check out new updates and expansions. The upcoming Gates of Oblivion update is intended to add a ton of new content. It’s also the start of a new element of gameplay many fans have asked for in the past few years: romance and more personal relationships within the game.

In an interview with GameInformer, Creative Director Rich Lambert detailed that upcoming expansions to the online game will add more than just new quests. In fact, one of the biggest updates will be the addition of romance gameplay. This would likely entail more interactions with NPCs, the ability to marry, have children, and other features. “We just want to make sure when we add it that we do it right,” Lambert explains. This could add a big dimension to the popular MMORPG that fans want.

The upcoming Gates of Oblivion expansion is meant to add a huge new dimension to the game. Along with the addition comes two new companions, Bastian and Mirri. This is sort of a precursor to The Elder Scrolls Online featuring more meaningful relationships between players and the world. It’s incredible to see how expansive ESO is if you haven’t played the game before. In the past few years, it feels like a completely new experience.

If you’re on the fence about trying The Elder Scrolls Online, then now seems like the perfect time to join. The game is free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, so if you’re a Microsoft fan, you don’t have much to lose. Just a few hours off your life, really. You and I both know we’ve wasted a few hours on worse things.
