Quite some time ago, I played a game called All Walls Must Fall thanks to German developer Inbetweengames providing a key prior to its release. I really enjoyed it. Set in a timeline where the Cold War never ended, you are in the techno future of 2089 Berlin.

The game’s unique selling point beyond the neon-lit dystopian future is the rhythmic, time-bending, semi real-time and semi turn-based tactics. It is very X-COM-ish, since you move on a grid with an isometric view. Almost three years on from its initial release back in 2018 onto Steam, the tech-noir game is out now on the Nintendo Switch.

It involves blasts of espionage in a never-ending loop as two agents try to outmaneuver each other. As a result, it easily becomes a strange game to try to explain succinctly. Every mission is set on the backdrop of the pounding techno and flashing lights of the dancefloors of Berlin nightclubs. You try to in real-time speak with bouncers, break into back rooms, and generally do that whole espionage thing you came to do. While the combat sits in the turn-based realm of reality, you can also use a bit of temporal mechanics to bend time to your will.

It is this latter portion that is core to the USP of the game. With enough points stored up, you can shift the world and your enemies back into a more advantageous spot for your gun to blast them. In essence, you can cheat death with magic powers. However, with the frantic nature of the pounding dancefloor coming to life with bullets and temporal mechanics, you might also aid your enemies as they are brought back to life or gain health you had knocked off. All of this results in a stylish and frantic tactics battle on a cyberpunk backdrop that I personally quite like.

The game is now available for the Nintendo Switch through the E-shop and is priced at $7.99 (£7.19), a release discount from its $9.99 (£8.99) price tag.
