There are a few things we expect in the gaming industry to happen regularly. We know that when a new console releases, they’re often hard to find. We also know certain games pack a huge punch in terms of sales and popularity. It wasn’t surprising to see Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla topping charts along with the launch of two new consoles. It is surprising, however, to see Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War falling short of #1 due to Valhalla’s continued success.

At least for its first week on shelves, Black Ops Cold War will sit at number two on the top gaming charts in the U.S. and the U.K. This is surprising, due to the longevity in Valhalla sales. That longevity is keeping Ubisoft’s Nordic action-thriller atop the charts for longer than most might expect. There are some reasons for this, mostly related to the sheer positive response Valhalla received upon release. The game is only picking up traction as more people play it, including critics who are applauding its conclusion and final hours of gameplay.

Ubisoft sort of needs this good press. The launch of Watch Dogs: Legion really disappointed people to a huge extent. Furthermore, it’s obvious that other series like Ghost Recon need major tweaking to help fix the lackluster response gamers are giving the latest entries. Plus, the newest Far Cry game got delayed. So yeah, this is a good win for Ubisoft against major competition over at Activision.

If you played Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Black Ops Cold War, let us know what you think of the two games! Just played one? Tell us what you think too! I’m curious to hear what the feedback is from people who might love these titles or find them a bit underwhelming.
