EA, like many companies, has games coming to the next-gen consoles that exist on the Xbox One and PS4. If players already own a game, then it looks like they’re going to have some options to upgrade for the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Here is how EA is going to handle some of its biggest games that work cross-generation.
Firstly, sports games like Madden 21 and FIFA 21 have a pretty good deal involved with them. Next-gen upgrades for both games are available if you upgrade within the same console family. For example, PS4 owners can upgrade to the PS5 version of FIFA 21 for free, but not if they jump to the Xbox Series X/S. It’s a pretty good deal and runs through the release of FIFA 22 and Madden 22 next year.
Currently, Star Wars Squadrons is also offering a backward compatibility deal. It’s the same deal as the sports titles, where you can upgrade within the same console family. Plus, the game is getting its own next-gen upgrade in graphics and performance for new console owners. Performance and Visual options are going to allow players to choose what sort of console upgrade they’d like to enjoy.
Other titles like The Sims 4 and Apex Legends are getting performance enhancements as well. Most of EA’s games offer a next-gen upgrade for free. It’s a great deal as the launch lineups for PS5 and Series X/S are a little lackluster. If you own a few EA games on PS4 and Xbox One, then it’s nice to know you already have some great games to play. Plus, they’ll look and feel better than ever.
