It’s a headline I almost didn’t believe at first, but it’s true. The popularity of LEGO toys dates back decades at this point. Likewise, Nintendo is a name that is synonymous with fun, games, and childhood. Combining the two usually meant a need for imagination but a new product hitting shelves this summer is going to make dreams come true for kids and the young at heart. A LEGO NES console is set to release this August and work with all of the LEGO Mario toys releasing that month as well. Here’s what we know!

The LEGO Mario sets were already going to be a huge hit with a lot of kids and adults. Essentially, any Mario fan could get a lot of enjoyment out of making their own levels. Something a lot of people attribute to the Wii U days is a sense of failure. In my mind, I think of Amiibo first and foremost, and how impactful they were in Nintendo’s realization that people love buying Nintendo merch. Make them available enough and mirrored after popular characters, and the money basically makes itself.

The new LEGO Mario sets are going to be a huge hit, but another product will likely be popular as well. In August, according to a video from LEGO, a fully functional NES console made of LEGO bricks will release. The console will work with NES games, and even include one, which will likely be Super Mario Bros. Reports also note that the console will cost $250.

Do you think you’ll pick up a LEGO NES? It’s wild that in 2020 Nintendo can still sell an NES. Even more wild is the fact that people will buy it.
