It’s not very often a game series that seems on hold indefinitely gives an indication that new content might be coming soon. While it might be too soon to throw your Nanosuit on, it seems likely that something is coming from the Crysis series in the near future.
A lone tweet from the official Crysis Twitter account has fans reeling for a new game. Could we actually see the return of the series in the shape of Crysis 4? Most think no, and I tend to agree with them. I think rebooting the Crysis series with a brand new game might be a huge mistake. For one, a lot of gamers might not even remember anything from the original trilogy. Not to mention, younger gamers might be reading this wondering what Crysis even is.
The EA published and Crytek produced series started in 2007. With all the wild nanosuit features in some of the more recent shooters like Call of Duty or Titanfall, the idea of an exoskeleton might seem sort of boring. At the time, the powers your character gained from this futuristic suit felt out of this world. I remember being in middle school when Crysis released and being blown away. The last game in the series, Crysis 3 felt modern too, but released in 2013.
Launching a Crysis 4 might be out of the question right now. There’s not enough of a culture around these games, no matter how great they are. A remaster is much more likely. If we were to see Crysis come to Xbox Series X or PS5, the graphics might be a great example of how much these consoles can accomplish. The original games really made the most of the home consoles on which they released. Then, if the remaster is received well, we can talk about a new game altogether.
