It has been another long week here at Phenixx Gaming. We covered a lot, from a Rockstar head resigning, Apex Legends’ first anniversary and 4th season, Final Fantasy VII‘s release being pushed back on other platforms, Kingdom Hearts releasing in one bundle on PS4, Fallout 76 finally getting its NPC DLC, and the reveal that a PS5 website is online so you can sign up for more information when available. David also covered the news that Steam PC players played the equivalent of 2,300,000 years of games in a single year. It has been a heavy week for news and reviews for us. Not to mention, David’s coverage of the Joker DLC in Mortal Kombat 11, and my own review of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
This week’s free games on the Epic Games Store, are fewer than I said last week. As a result of current events around the world, I only had to play two board games instead of three. It is kind of hard to talk about a board game when you’ve only played a solo game against AI, but I’ll give it a try. Ticket to Ride is a video game parlor for selling you several expansions to make the game even moderatelu size that’s based on the board game by the same name. On Epic there are a total of 10 DLC packs with every other map aside from the base map that you get with the game. It is the equivalent of a mobile phone game version of something good.
The second game is fairly similar, in that it’s a medieval version of the same game but with roads instead of trains. It also has a total of 5 DLC packs that add to the game with the base being shallow. I will say that the concept of both sound fun when you’ve had a couple of social drinks and friends are around, but on a PC in an office on my own (aside from the cats) it is just dull. After a couple of games where I was hardly understanding where I was going wrong, I didn’t want to play either of them anymore. You need people to make this fun, but as my opinion on Borderlands stands, I don’t care if it needs people, I hate them all, thus it is boring.
Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne are free on the Epic Games store until Thursday the 13th of February. I’ve said February more times than I need count, so I’ll mention that there are some interesting games over on Twitch Prime if you’re a Twitch Prime member. Now that all the shameless plugging is done for this past week, let’s talk next week’s free games on the Epic Games Store; yes, it’s another double bill that will kill me.
You are Henry. Ok, maybe not you, but I did just freak out any Henry’s that are reading this; drawing attention to it so breaks the 4th wall making it weird. How are you, Henry? Still trying to get that sword to King Sigismund, he died just before his 70th birthday back in 1437. You might just be a bit late, but you can try again by playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Sadly there isn’t a guitar for you to duel with some kid nor are you trying to get the hand of the king’s daughter, she was not born until six years after you started your quest.
Ok, that joke was wearing thin on about the third line. Aztez, the other game coming next week is a turn-based strategy and side-scrolling brawler. I’ll admit, I’ve not heard much about this one, but the idea of this being a hack-and-slash game entirely about Aztecs with an interesting art style, has me sold already. I can’t wait to see Aztez and Kingdom Come: Deliverance as I try to rush through both to understand nothing about them, hoping to explain that next week.
