Now you don’t have to lick the back of a crusty woman’s head, you can lick some wonderful Great British games from before most of you were born. The Royal Mail, the UK mailing service, has issued some video game based stamps of gaming classics that are nothing but great. Who wouldn’t want a stamp of Lemmings or Worms? There’s even one that is about a game by Peter Molyneux, now I expect his ego to expand for this. £1.60 for a Populous stamp? I’ll lick a woman’s head sooner.
The other classics include 1984’s Elite, 1992’s Sensible Soccer, 1995’s Wipeout, 1987’s Dizzy, 1991’s Micro Machines, along with the aforementioned Lemmings, Worms, and Populous. However, you could still be licking a woman. She was a bit more square and fought more T-Rexes than her more recent incarnation (for three of the four), but Lara Croft is now immortalized in stamps. Sadly none of her better incarnations though, she’s only featured her ’96-2000 period then straight to 2013. Though the Collector’s sheet does feature a few more than one from her Uncharted phase, possible Angle of Darkness, and classic looks.
So if you want to own a small piece of gaming history through one of the most boring collector’s items in the world, now is your chance. You can get your stamps of Lady Croft or many other classic Great British video games right now on the Royal Mail’s online shop now. This is one of the few things I’ll break my “no pre-order” call to action, as this is a limited edition physical object one would be buying. All stamps and envelopes will be available from the 21st of January.
