Given I’ve heard more praise for Final Fantasy VII than I’ve heard anyone say something nice about this generation of consoles, it might shock some to hear that I’ve never played it. In its original form, I don’t intend to either. While I’m kicking a hornet’s nest, I am not a fan of JRPGs in general, as they are often drawn out for longer than any WrestleMania, and feature women with breasts larger than Kepler-37b. That said, since the reveal of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake gameplay at E3, my interest has been piqued.
That said, as we learn more about this remake, it sounds like the director, Tetsuya Nomura, is making his complete edition of the game. In a post released on the Square Enix blog yesterday, the big names in the team working on the game speak about their roles and the game. Nomura’s few paragraphs, in particular, seems to be interesting for some fans, as he notes the idea of adding new characters to the game.
“With regard to new characters,” says Nomura, “of whom I said during past interviews that there would be ‘none’ – though they aren’t main characters, their numbers ended up growing considerably in the process of creating a rich depiction of Midgar.” He then goes on to state, “When you think of Midgar’s final boss, you probably think of the M.O.T.O.R., but in this game new bosses will appear and add to the excitement of the story even more.” This is seemingly showing a change in heart for the director who states he’s been working on the game for quite some time.
In the piece, it was also reiterated that the game will be released in parts. This first part, releasing March 3rd, 2020 on the PS4, will be the entire Midgar section of the game with the added content as mentioned above. However, the team is already working on the next part, as Nomura says, “We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar.”
