A few months ago, we saw a trailer that was about as exciting as the toilet cleaner’s life is on the Death Star. The world premiere of Everspace 2 at GamesCom’s Opening Night Live was primarily a trailer to tease players into parting with their wallets right then and there. Now it seems it has worked in this short time span. In a press release sent out Friday, Rockfish Games GmbH announced that their Kickstarter campaign had reached its goal with the first stretch goal unlocked too.

The Kickstarter campaign for Everspace 2 with a funding goal of $493,000 USD [ended] after a thrilling end rally bringing in $560,069 USD from a total of 7979 supporters.” Says the company. Now with their stretch goal reached they will be adding a feature from the previous game called, “The ancients’ rift.” According to the company, this goal was only reached minutes before the closure of the campaign, making it far more exciting than that initial trailer. “Thanks to this stretch goal,” stated Rockfish in the press release, “daring space pilots can look forward to extra valuable loot and increasingly difficult challenges in the end game.

In the email sent out, the company also states that those who back the game at the standard edition tier or above will be able to play the game soon. The short demo they have been traveling to conventions with is currently being adapted to work on machines with several different specs and performance levels. This prototype version will be available to backers around mid-December. There is currently no word if this will be available for a short amount of time, how big it is, or any other details. One would expect it to be a fairly small area of the game for those who backed it to jump in and tease them until the early access release.

Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of Rockfish Games said, “Now, we can develop Everspace 2 as planned[,] with close connection with our community – as requested by our fans – and release it first on Steam Early Access in September 2020.” With that, if you missed out on Kickstarter, you can still get the game early and help fund the game a little with a 12 percent discount on the Steam Early Access version though the Rockfish Games store.
