Occasionally, indie game focused website itch.io advertises new games or game bundles that it hosts on its front page. Recently, itch.io is hosting a bundle for the recently released game, Can Androids Pray.

Can Androids Pray is the work of developer Natalie Clayton, writer Xalavier Nelson Jr. and  composer Priscilla Snow. In an alternate future where humanity has apparently taken to the stars, two female android mech pilots have crashed on the abandoned Earth; where they’re left to slowly die. Stuck on a dying planet, all they can do is talk to each other, think about their coming deaths and contemplate the existence of a higher power.

It is a “sitcom-length” narrative game where you talk with your fellow pilot in these last moments, making choices to guide the conversation. It is one of those stories that goes beyond the simple question of “can robots be human” and asks about specific human experiences that reflect our reality. The nature of death is something that people always think about, especially in times of crisis. Given the setting, the game also presents the fears of an apocalyptic Earth, which unmitigated climate change and pollution can lead to. Whether you seek solace in a higher power or not, Can Androids Pray is about dealing with these existential fears.

Can Androids Pray comes in a blue and red variant. The differences between both are largely cosmetic, as all it does is change the game’s color palette. They both cost $6.99 separately, but for the sake of convenience, you can get both for the same price from the bundle. If you pay $11.99 for the bundle, you’ll also get the game’s soundtrack which is made up of ominous electric noise, foreboding prayers and Vocaloid singing.

If you’re interested in the game, you better not wait too long, because the bundle closes in, uh, 20 years. Better hop on this deal while you can.
