Stadia Chief Phil Harrison reportedly revealed that games on Stadia will cost the same as their counterparts on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So though you’ll need a fast connection to enjoy any game you’ll be streaming, you’ll also won’t see a difference in price in comparison to other platforms/consoles.

The game streaming service, which will work over your internet connection and does not require a traditional console, has led some to speculate that the price of its games may be cheaper than those you’d buy for other platforms.

“I don’t know why it would be cheaper,” Harrison said to Eurogamer this Thursday.

“The value you get from the game on Stadia means you can play it on any screen in your life — TV, PC, laptop, tablet, phone. I think that is going to be valuable to players,” he said. “In theory, the Stadia version of a game is going to be at the highest possible quality of innovation and sophistication on the game engine side.” The interview with Phil Harrison can be read on Eurogamer.

At the very least Stadia will have different variations included in terms of pricing. There’s a free Base tier for any game you purchase via Stadia that goes up to 1080/60p in stereo (at 10Mb/s) but won’t offer the library of games Stadia has or that most subscription-based platforms offer. The $10 monthly Stadia Pro tier gets you 4K/60p HDR quality (at 35Mb/sec) with 5.1 surround sound, along with free games added to your library and discounts.

Harrison did not specify the price of games on the Stadia platform, but players should not expect a difference, stating games’ publishers and developers are “in as much control of the price” as Google.

To use Google Stadia in 2019 you’d have to buy the $130 Founder’s Limited Edition pre-order which gets you access in November, a limited-edition controller, a Chromecast Ultra streaming device, three months of Stadia Pro, Destiny 2, the first access to username creation,  and a friend pass that provides three months to try Stadia Pro. You can also pre-order a Stadia controller on its own for $69 now.
