Overwatch, Blizzard’s multiplayer hero shooter, was released almost three years ago and has been going strong since then; introducing a professional esports league and has recently introduced a workshop for players to make their own custom modes. Every year since its release, Overwatch has held a big anniversary event, and this year the Anniversary event will start on May 21st.

The Overwatch Anniversary events celebrate the game by offering a whole bunch of new limited-time skins and emotes for its duration. For those that don’t care for the encouraged consumerism and want to celebrate in a more meaningful way, last year the Anniversary events started making past event-only brawls available in the game’s arcade mode; giving players another chance at playing cooperative PvE events like Junkenstein’s Revenge or weird gimmick modes like Lucioball.

There will be six new legendary skins and three epic ones to entice people to play for loot boxes (or just buy them). As with its past events, the official Overwatch Twitter has been showing off a few of the upcoming skins. The Academy D.Va legendary skin was shown off, switching D.Va’s suit to a preppy schoolgirl outfit, and turning her mech bright pink and to a more regal looking design. Also unveiled is a Gargoyle legendary skin for Winston, transforming him into a monstrous creature that wouldn’t look out of place from Blizzard’s fantasy works.

Of course, the new skins won’t be the only ones available. The loot pool for the anniversary event will also include skins and items from all past events, giving players another shot if they missed them. As somebody that’s missed out on a bunch of past events, this is good for me. Additionally, dance emoticons will be given to Wrecking Ball, Ashe, and Baptiste, characters that have been introduced to the game in the past year.

Overwatch‘s 3rd anniversary won’t only be for fans, but for newcomers as well. Coinciding with the event is a week-long free trial period from the 21st to 28th, so maybe invite your friends that have never played the game to squad up and play together.

The event will run until June 10th. During that time, Overwatch fans will also be seeing the start of Stage 3 of the Overwatch League on June 6th so there will be more Overwatch content to look forward to afterward.
