Mortal kombat 11 is the latest entry in the franchise with the same name developed by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros, set to release later this month. Lately we’ve had a lot to see about the game by way of fatalities, confirmed characters, trailer reveals, micro-transactions, and more. I’ll be breaking down all of what we know so far starting from the confirmed characters and revealed trailers.

The latest revealed character is Kitana, a character most Mortal Kombat fans are used to seeing. Fans were worried that Mortal Kombat 11 wouldn’t feature Kitana this time around, and now are more excited about her inclusion. The announcement is official, as Kitana was announced through an TV commercial for MK11. The new trailer shows off her brutal and quick combat style as well as her brand new tournament load-outs while also featuring D’vorah as her opponent, using her insect-based moves and fighting style returning from Mortal Kombat X.

Also revealed last week was Cetrion a brand new character to the series. Cetrion is of the strongest characters in the game according to NetherRealm, which makes sense as she is an elder god who rules over the the elements and nature itself. Cetrion is a ranged fighter hurling rocks at her opponents, and using vines to pull opposing fighters to the ground. Her finisher also appears to be ranged as well, engulfing her opponent with stone then finishing them off using a giant laser beam from her mouth above them.

This next tidbit is not as current but is still relevant, and involves the reveal of another new character Kollector. This reveal also signals the return of Erron Black from Mortal Kombat X. We then had another trailer last week from NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. The trailer features brand new of the favorite fatalities among the NetherRealm team for the game, and features Subzero, Scorpion, Skarlet, Geras, and my personal favourite, Johnny Cage. Plus the devs also talk about their opinions of it. The trailer is quite gruesome and bloody so be advised if you are sensitive to such things. A new trailer was also released  featuring old school characters vs “new-school characters” back in March.

Although at this point its well known news, we also were given trailers last month revealing Noob Saibot and Shang Tsung as well as a few more story trailers and “the making of Baraka” videos. For those who aren’t familiar with Noob Saibot, he’s one of the oldest characters in Mortal Kombat. He appeared in Mortal Kombat 2 as a non playable hidden character and Mortal Kombat 3 as a playable character. Shang Tsung is also well known to be an old character and boss in the franchise, he is set to appear as a DLC character later on.

Finally we get probably the most important reveal. We’ve heard about microtransactions relating to the currency called “Time Crystals”. The developers have confirmed it is all cosmetic and is used more as a shortcut to skins, special gear, intros, poses, and more. They’ve also assured there are no loot boxes whatsoever. Everything you get with time crystals you can also get by just playing the game.

Mortal Kombat 11 is set to release on April 23rd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
