Three new titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online NES library on April 10th, and one is a heavy hitter. Pun absolutely intended.

Punch-Out!! leads the pack with some boxing fun. The game, developed and published by Nintendo in 1987, was long awaited for the service. Punch-Out!! features a boxer known as Little Mac, fighting his way up through ranks of the World Video Boxing Association.

Many know Little Mac retroactively from the last two Super Smash Bros. games. After facing a series of colorful fictional opponents in three circuits, the goal is to win a final Dream Fight against a highly skilled boxer. In the Gold Version, this was Super Macho Man, who was also the final opponent in the arcade version. US players who owned or played Punch-Out!! faced Mike Tyson in the final match, but that version is not included in the Nintendo Switch Online version. It’s a great game, and important for the NES library.

Next is Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. This game was originally intended to be Mario 2 but ended up being a Japanese release only. The game is known for its intense difficulty, which contributes to its reputation as a black sheep in the franchise. Reviewers viewed The Lost Levels as an extension of the original release, especially its difficulty progression. Seriously, spend some time with Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels when you are feeling patient.

Finally, Star Soldier rounds up the April releases. Star Soldier is a shooter, developed and published by Hudson Soft, for the Famicom. The player pilots the starship “Caesar,” traveling through space stations occupied by powerful supercomputers known as “Starbrains,” who threaten the galactic empire. Star Soldier greatly resembles the earlier arcade game Star Force and has okay replayability. It’s likely of the three releases for April, this one will get the least amount of your time.
