For fans of games and entertainment involving H.P. Lovecraft, The Sinking City is a highly anticipated release. With a launch date of June 27th, 2019, horror fans are itching to see what the game has to offer. As part of a fun promotional campaign, Frogwares (the developers of The Sinking City) have created a Chrome extension to make your browsing a little more Lovecraftian.

The extension, named “We are all living in a Lovecraft story” replaces common political names and terminology with Lovecraft themed names and phrases. Now instead of reading about Trump or Brexit, you’ll be greeted with tales of Elder Gods affecting our lives in all sorts of odd ways.

Here is an overview of the Extension from the Chrome Store page: “Replace the world’s leaders names with Cthulhu’s Mythos dieties and turn the web into a never ending Lovecraft horror story.

Have you ever read the news and thought to yourself “Well, this is it. We’ve all gone insane!”. If you have, then this plug-in is for you! Turn your online source of helplessness, disappointment, and sadness into a horror Lovecraft story. See just how ridiculous the world actually is.

This plug-in will replace the world’s leaders names with Cthulhu’s Mythos deities. All the cult favourites, such as Cthulhu, Azathoth, and Yog-Sothoth are there, and watch them bring chaos (and absurdity) to our lives.

This is a hilarious marketing idea to get people in the mood for The Sinking City leading up to its release. I think that with the state of our national and international news, it might be fun to spice things up with a little existential chaos.

Sure, it won’t change much in the long run, but as fun little gags go, this isn’t too bad. Frogwares is clearly thinking outside the box with their promotional strategy, and I rather enjoy when devs and publishers get creative on things like this.
