Back in October of 2016 Mooneye Studios, a German indie developer, started a Kickstarter campaign for their first project. Lost Ember was a Kickstarter success, reaching 30 percent of their goal in only 24 hours. That wasn’t all, as they ultimately were funded beyond 300% of their original goal. Since then, there have been some issues requiring the release date to be pushed back, however, a new trailer teases a firm release date and a Nintendo Switch release as well.

For those who are unaware, this is what the official press release says about the game and its premise. “Lost Ember lets you explore ancient ruins and forgotten memories as a wolf with the ability to possess any animal you meet to find out what happened to humankind and your trusted spirit companion in a past life.”

In the official release announcement trailer, Lost Ember’s gorgeous world is showcased. We also see a little bit of the core mechanics at play, including the wolf’s ability to inhabit other creatures. Prior to this trailer, a Nintendo Switch release had not been announced but was highly requested from fans. According to the trailer, Lost Ember will release first on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on July 19th, with the Nintendo Switch release possibly coming at a later date.

The team did not outright state that the Switch version would be delayed, but they have made it clear that it is a possibility, which is refreshing. It allows fans and people who are eagerly awaiting the release to have clear expectations, and lets people know that sometimes delays happen. The team has already had to push back the release date twice prior to this announcement, and they have stated that the ability to finally give a concrete release date is a relief.

Producer Sinikka Compart commented on their fanbase, and the delays, stating: “We have the loveliest, most patient and kind community I could have dreamt up. I can still hardly believe they’re for real. Very soon, we will finally be able to give back to our community

I am sure we will see more information on Lost Ember as we get closer to July 19th, but I personally am excited about the release. Lost Ember looks gorgeous, and if it plays as well as it looks, this will be another fantastic addition to anyone’s Switch catalog.
