This week, an independent developer known as Chieftain Artworks and publisher, Goonswarm Games, has announced a new fully realized game set within the universe. SCP: Control Error is a very short psychological horror game that embodies the best aspects of SCP. Set in the Cold War era, players will take on the role of Barry Gittings, a man volunteering for an experiment inside the underground Vortex Complex.
Players will complete various puzzles and uncover more about the mysterious tests through exploration, picking up audio files or reading reports from those who came before. However, the most interesting aspect of this game is how the developer has directly involved the community. In SCP: Control Error, the players take direct ownership of the story by voting on what happens next in the official Discord.
In this way, the game is like making your way through a choose-your-own-adventure novel while incorporating elements of a live social experiment. As someone who enjoyed Psychology in college, I’m quite interested in seeing how this project develops down the line
If you find yourself interested in contributing to this collaborative gaming experience SCP: Control Error is available to Wishlist now on Steam.
