Marvel Rivals Season 2 Breakdown

With a very successful season one, I was quite looking forward to the newest season of Marvel Rivals. This week NetEase has unveiled all the details regarding upcoming content players can expect for the team based hero shooter.

Season 2 begins April 11th and is themed around the Hellfire Gala being held within the mutant island nation of Krakoa. The season will kick off on April 11th with the new character of Emma Frost joining the roster. Emma will fill a tank role in the Vanguard class utilizing her diamond skin to get up close and personal while also assaulting foes with telepathic bolts from range and shielding allies. The second character releasing this season will be Ultron Four who is like Human Torch and Thing and will be releasing during the second quarter of the Spring season. As of now NetEase has not revealed what role or abilities Ultron will fill, but I imagine he will be a Duelist or Strategist.

This season will also feature the new map of Krakoa to complement the overall theme along with a ton of new skins for many characters. Another interesting change will be some key balancing adjustments to Team-Ups along with brand new ones. In terms of new Team-Ups Emma Frost will have one with Magneto and Scarlet Witch which creates illusory copies of allies to confuse enemies. Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch will also have a Team-Up which modifies the Witch’s chaos energy while Captain America and Winter Soldier will receive a mobility-based Team-Up.

In terms of balance adjustments Magneto and Scarlet Witch will lose their Team-Up which is disappointing given this was one of the cooler ones in my eyes. Storm, Thor, and Captain America’s Team-Up is also being axed. Meanwhile, Psylocke and Winter Soldier are being removed from the Dimensional Shortcut and Ammo Overload Team-Ups respectively. Additionally, Namor is removed from the Chilling Charisma Team-Up and will replace Dr. Strange within the Gamma Charge Team-Up. This will allow him to summon more powerful krakens and seems like a nice change.

For more minor tweaks to the roster, players can also expect buffs to tanks like Peni Parker and Captain America while Strange will receive nerfs. Mister Fantastic and Moon Knight will also receive minor buffs. In the Strategist role, both Loki and Adam Warlock will receive nerfs while Rocket Racoon will receive a minor adjustment to improve team synergy.

The final announcement regarding the dev philosophy going forward. Starting from Season 3 onwards Marvel Rivals will plan to release a brand new character each month during seasons to keep things fresh while also giving fans ample opportunities to see their favorite characters translated to the game.
