New RuneScape Game Announced

Funnily enough, I’ve never played more than a few hours of RuneScape even though it was one of the first widespread fantasy MMOs to explode in popularity, forever changing the face of the industry in years to come. I didn’t have access to a working computer during the game’s peak popularity and in the modern era, I wasn’t able to get invested in the title compared to other games on the market. Nonetheless, I cannot deny the game has stood the test of time with a dedicated fanbase still playing the old-school version.

Since I have no nostalgia for the original game, I was interested in the announcement of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. This is a brand new title developed by the team at Jagex and set on the forgotten continent of Ashenfall within the RuneScape universe, but built within Unreal Engine 5. According to IGN, Ashenfall will feature five unique biomes and is split into two distinct regions. The game will retain much of what made RuneScape great with a focus on exploration, crafting, and progression.

Though RuneScape: Dragonwilds does feature multiplayer, it is capped at around four players rather than boasting expansive servers. Survival is another core element of this game. Players will be under constant pressure from dragon servants under the command of the almighty Dragon Queen and must undertake quests to level up and gain the power to defeat her. However, you can also expect to contend with many other iconic creatures from RuneScape during your journeys and uncover new secrets surrounding the core game’s lore.

As of now RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be entering early access sometime later this spring and you can Wishlist the game right now on Steam. The development team has also planned a livestream on April 15th which will showcase the game and answer questions regarding development plans, gameplay features, and more.
