I can’t say the things I’ve said already since the announcement, mostly because they have been obscene and vulgar. That may be what I am, thanks to these types of games, according to some. Speculated soon after the release of the fantastic THPS 1 + 2, many of us were waiting for the rapid announcement and tease of the other two. That of course being Tony Hawks’ Pun Simulator 5 + 6. Jokes aside, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was announced yesterday after days of teasing and maybe a small leak several hours before the official reveal.
Just a teaser trailer, a release date, the digital deluxe edition details, and a whole lot of me screaming in happiness while Moterhead’s “Ace of Spades” plays on repeat. Published by Activision (of course), the remakes this time around are done by Chicago, Orland, and Nashville-based developer, Iron Galaxy Studios. Iron Galaxy previously made such stellar releases as Divekick (no one?), seasons 2 & 3 of 2013’s Killer Instinct, mediocre Shadow of the Colossus-like Extinction, and most recently, Rumbleverse. That’s not filling me with a great amount of hope.
The studio also does a lot of port/support work, such as the PC port for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. The press release doesn’t say too much about the studio taking over for what is now Blizard Albany, but the minimal trailer offers a great look at some classic levels we’re all used to, and maybe a new waterpark. Continuing from where the remakes left off, there is also a new set of skaters joining the originals, including (by the looks of it) Lizzie Armanto, Letícia Bufoni, and I think Rayssa Leal.
New tricks, added game modes, new game + to boot, cross-platform play, “enhanced creation tools” (I’ll be the judge of that), and more according to the press release. If that’s not enough, the original soundtrack is set to return, and like the last remake, there is set to be the addition of a few new tracks. I will say that nothing will touch the original soundtracks of Tony Hawk games, but the additions last time worked for the most part.
So be it the “Foundry” we all know and love/hate, the “College,” the “Airport,” “Tokyo,” “Alcatraz,” “London,” and more, there’s lots to come in July when THPS 3 + 4 releases. Coming to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Battle.net, you can now pre-order for the July 11th release date. If you can get something physically, don’t pre-order (in my opinion). Of course, the Digital Deluxe edition gets you THPS 3 + 4 a little early, and pre-orders get you access to the “Foundry” demo.
So, what do you get with the Digital Deluxe edition, then? The pre-order bonuses such as the “Foundry” demo, three days early access, and a Wireframe Tony shader. You also get non-pre-order stuff such as create-a-skater apparel, extra skate decks, bonus in-game music (that will be on streaming services), oh, and the Doom Slayer and Revenant skaters alongside the Unmaykr hoverboard. So, no Darth Maul or Ollie the Magic Bum, then?
If you’re extra insane and have money to burn (oh look, kindling in my pocket), you can get the Collector’s Edition. This is something I would say you can pre-order because you get something physical: a full-sized Birdhouse deck (deck only) with a printed signature by Tony himself. Of course that’s alongside the game and the Digital Deluxe stuff as well.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is set to release on July 11th, 2025, for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Battle.net, at a retail price of $49.99 or regional equivalents. The super-sexy Digital Deluxe edition is a little more at $69.99. Honestly, I don’t care that it is $70. I’m so happy we’re getting more.
