Alexx AplinHave you ever wanted to run a café? Gaming lets us try things we normally wouldn’t get to try, such as running a cozy café filled with cute animals. As part of the Steam Next Fest, Tailside has a demo offering a short and sweet time with this cozy game.
In Tailside, you run your own cozy café in a world full of charming, cute creatures. This demo is a short, 20-to-40-minute (depending on your play style) snapshot of a day in your café. It allows you to get a brief understanding of brewing 3 different types of coffee (each with its own method), as well as decorating your café.
During your time working at the café, you not only have to brew the coffee and make sure the drinks are properly made, but you also must make sure to clean up after customers. Customers will respond poorly if the empty cups are left lying around, so periodically you’ll have to go out and clean up after them.
After serving a certain number of drinks, you’ll have to pick through your coffee beans to make sure only the best are served to your customers. Customers also want the café to look good, so using the money you make to decorate your café is important.
As I said before, the demo for Tailside is brief. However, I did get to see a few of the cute characters, and the mini-games/coffee-making elements included were engaging. However, there is one main issue at the moment. My favorite part is the latte art mini-game.
Currently, there is no gamepad support. Granted, this is something that could be added later on in development, so it may just be something that isn’t ready yet.
Also, while it may be due to the limits of the demo, I felt that the decoration and the coffee-making were a little limited. There’s no indication of how your decorating impacts the appeal to your customers. Hopefully that will be added later.
As far as a demo goes, this is a delightful taste of what Tailside has to offer. The plan is for Tailside to enter Early Access later this year, and I’m eager to see how that goes. For now, let’s see how they implement the feedback from this demo.
