Dune: Awakening Release Date Confirmed

I’ve been especially looking forward to Dune: Awakening since the announcement trailer. The desert world of Arrakis is so rich that, given a large enough budget, it allows for a myriad of exciting new narratives and gameplay elements. This week, developer Funcom announced that the open-world, multiplayer survival game set within the Dune universe will be released on PC on May 20th.

The PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game are planned for a later release, which has yet to be determined. However, players will have an opportunity to test out the world on Steam right now. Funcom is currently unlocking the game’s character creator and a benchmark mode that allows you to experience a few select scenes from the full game.

Character creation in Dune: Awakening begins with the test of the Gom Jabbar undertaken by protagonist, Paul Atreides in the opening chapters of the novel. In addition to customizing looks players will also choose a background consisting of a home planet, social caste, and mentor from one of four options: Bene Gesserit, Sword Master, Mentat, or Trooper. Each background will determine your starting abilities though eventually players can experience what each has to offer. Once the full game launches players will be able to transfer any characters made in this pre-build version over to the main title.

Additionally, those who play through the character creator and benchmark mode will receive a special reward in the form of a Frameblade Knife skin that can be redeemed on the official launch date. Dune: Awakening will retail for 49.99 USD. Players who pre-order the game will receive a Terrarium containing the Maud’ Dib, a desert mouse creature that Paul takes as his Fremen name within the novel. This can be used to decorate bases in the game and will be a must-have for hardcore fans searching to create the ultimate homage to the series.
