Hideo Kojima to Host SXSW Panel for Death Stranding 2

Few creatives (regardless of the medium) are as renowned and subversive as Hideo Kojima. The Metal Gear Solid mastermind truly capitalized on an already impressive career with the release of Death Stranding, and with a sequel on the way, fans are eager to learn whatever they can about the new project. Exclusive to PS5, the game is still largely shrouded in secrecy, but a SXSW panel next month will likely illuminate some of the game’s details. Here’s what we know about Kojima’s plans to attend the popular Austin festival.

In collaboration with PlayStation, Hideo Kojima will host an SXSW panel in Ballroom D on March 9th in Austin, Texas. The panel, titled “PlayStation Presents Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Special Panel,” will likely provide a deeper look into the follow-up to the 2019 hit game. Kojima Productions will also host an exclusive pop-up shop at SXSW, featuring the latest Death Stranding merchandise and exclusive items available only at SXSW. Details for both the panel and pop-up are still to come.

We know little about the story of Death Stranding 2 other than that it continues the story of Sam and his companions. While trying to save humanity, players will follow them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles, and haunting mysteries. The first game was a one-of-a-kind experience and somewhat divisive, so I’m hoping the sequel will provide ample opportunity to interrogate the themes and questions at the heart of the first game.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will bring back Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker, as well as introduce characters played by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Academy Award-winning film director George Miller.
