New Expansion Coming to Age of Mythology: Retold

One of my favorite things to come out last year was the return of Age of Mythology. This series has always been one of my favorites and I’m glad to see Microsoft continuing to support the game post-launch. The Immortal Pillars expansion will add the Chinese pantheon to the playable roster of civilizations. This culture was the last to come to the original game and I’m happy to see it returning here.

The Immortal Pillars expansion will feature a brand new campaign with nine expansive levels highlighting the stories and heroes of Chinese folklore. Players can expect the Chinese pantheon to feature the returning core deities of Nuwa, Fuxi, and Shennong along with a variety of minor gods such as the fire deity, Zhurong, and Gonggong. This means the expansion will have a total of 12 gods. Each lesser god will shape your civilization’s myth units and provide various benefits.

The Immortal Pillars expansion will also provide seven new maps to explore along with several exciting new myth units like the Yazi, Zhuque, and Taotie. These will debut alongside returning units from the original expansion, such as the dragon-like Qilin and the white tiger creature known as Baihu. As is the case in Age of Empires, buildings will feature distinctive Chinese architecture and landmarks, each of which will provide distinct tactical advantages for your troops.

Players will have a chance to dive into this expansion starting March 4th. This coincides with the official launch of the game for PlayStation as previously the game remained exclusive to PC, and Xbox. The expansion will also be included as part of the Premium Edition of the game. I hope this is just the first of many expansions to come to Age of Mythology: Retold. Future expansions from this point on will breach new territory and have the opportunity to highlight lesser-known cultures to bring the full potential of the series into focus.
