I get that a lot of people are really happy with racing sim games where you have basically no control and have to be a professional racing driver. As I’ve made clear multiple times, I just love pushing someone into a barrier and watching their charred husk of metal and plastic disintegrate into dust. I guess that’s enough about my weekend activities on the i-95, I’m also partial to Wreckfest, the closest thing we’ve got to Burnout in several years. As announced last year, there is going to be a second, and it will be released rather soon.

As announced yesterday in a press release on Wreckfest 2, “Wreckfest 2, the next evolution of full-contact racing, crashes into Early Access on PC on March 20, 2025. Developer Bugbear has overhauled its physics engine to deliver the most intense crashes, deeper component damage, and absolute vehicular mayhem.” With the trailer itself being on the nose of who will be playing it (you and I), “The following content is intended for immature audiences only.” You’re goddamn right!

The press release goes on to say, “Race on high-speed circuits – or tear through a junkyard filled with, well, junk! Take on wild jumps, try to dodge oncoming traffic at chaotic intersections. Good luck with that! Or embrace total destruction in derby mode, where chaos reigns, and every collision fuels the madness. It’s not just a race – it’s carnage on wheels. With no rules and no mercy, every race becomes a battle to the finish line against up to 23 other players or AI drivers in all-out multiplayer mayhem!

Forget the shiny supercars – In Wreckfest 2, the rides are old, rusty, dented, and patched together. As Early Access progresses, you’ll be able to build the banger of your dreams and transform your battered ride into a wrecking machine! New cars and other vehicles will be added as the game evolves. From day one, Wreckfest 2 will be shaped by your feedback. We’re eager to create the greatest demolition derby-style game of all time. Ready to take the wheel?

Only available through Steam, you can wishlist Wreckfest 2 ahead of its early access release on March 20th. There was also an update on Steam ahead of the early access launch, the post noting what details are removed from the storefront page. Basically, details that will be added by the 1.0 release, but at the current time aren’t set for the early access launch. I wish more publishers/developers were more honest about that, maybe keeping the details in a public roadmap.
