The concept of idle gaming is not necessarily new. For years, games have attempted to invite you to play them even when you’re not actively playing them. This may include bringing your Pokewalker with you as you move about the day or stepping away to let crops grow in a farming sim while you do other activities. A brand new game that was announced for release this June includes a similar idle gaming mechanic but also allows players to play actively. Best of all, it’s a gorgeous fishing simulator.

Cast n Chill was announced by developer and publisher Wombat Brawler and features a unique take on the fishing sim genre. As you’d expect, players can catch rare fish, upgrade their gear, and reel in legendary catches. However, there are some incredible additions to this fishing sim model. Firstly, the game features a passive mode that can take over and let your character fish in peace while you tackle other things. Players can return when ready to see what their catches of the day were.

This idle mode also features offline progress and functions on a second screen if you have a multi-monitor setup. This idle monitor gaming is something I really enjoy doing with Spirit City: Lofi Sessions and, honestly, is a fun way to keep gaming while I’m doing my day job. Of course, you can actively fish with your loyal pup and work on your collection of 100+ common, rare, and legendary fish species, including fresh and saltwater.

Cast n Chill is an immediate Steam Wishlist addition for me from the art alone. Let us know in the comments if you plan to check this game out when it releases in June 2025.
