As The Wurzels once said, “Ohh arrh!” Yep, see that satellite going overhead, that’s that joke passing you by. As was teased during the Netflix debut of WWE’s RAW, Clifford the Big Red Samoan Dog might just be on the cover of one of the editions for this year’s WWE 2K25. Announced yesterday, we got details on the editions and cover stars, new gameplay editions, some of the roster, and beyond. Including a release date.
Coming in March, the latest release and hopefully the last of the PS4/Xbox One era, WWE 2K25 will focus around “The Big Dog” and the Bloodline’s family tree (sadly not including Gary Albright, I assume). The trailer as revealed yesterday focused on The OTC, Roman Reigns himself, and seemingly set up for a Showcase Mode that centers around the rise of Cody, the fall of the Roman empire, and of course, the eventual Bloodline Vs Bloodline War Games match we got late last year. The trailer itself doesn’t give much away, but certainly shows off the Bloodline-focus. And Pepsi Phil.
From the press release that we received, the 2K Showcase: The Bloodline Dynasty is set to be “the first retelling of the Bloodline saga and an interactive celebration of the legacy of the extended Anoa’i wrestling family.” The press release also goes on to note further additions to this year’s release: “[N]ew match types and stipulations, such as the Underground Match, Bloodline Rules Match[,] and Intergender matchups, the return of Chain Wrestling, a new MyRISE experience, and much more.” It feels obligatory at this point, but 2K had to get in “The largest-ever WWE 2K roster” once again, with reportedly more than 300 wrestlers, legends, and Hall of Famers.
There aren’t many notable additions in the lineup, though we do have mention of Jade Cargill, Becky Lynch, DDP, Jacob Fatu, CM Punk, Chyna, and Roddy Piper. However, the more interesting point of the press release is the note, “Third-person camera support in online matches and the ability for each player to control their own camera [has] been added.” A great bit of detail for those who try to play online, blame 2K for their poor ping alongside a blah online experience, and claim the game is dead 6 months after launch as if these aren’t yearly releases.
That’s not the most exciting news though. There are “new brawl environments” which include WWE Archives, I hear the fights in YouTube comments are particularly brutal, as well as the deadliest place in all of wrestling (aside from TNA), the NXT Parking Lot.
For players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, there is also a strange feature, “The Island – an interactive, online WWE-themed world that provides an immersive experience allowing players the option of focusing on a single-player experience, with the ultimate goal of earning a position in The Bloodline, or interacting and competing with other players they encounter.” Wow, I can’t wait to completely ignore it and find out that it is the most popular, probably microtransaction-heavy, hellscape cooked up by the biggest villain on day release from hell. Is my “bias” showing?
For the Showcase Mode the press release notes: “The all-new 2K Showcase, hosted by ‘The Wiseman’ Paul Heyman, celebrates one of the most iconic wrestling family dynasties – The Bloodline and the extended Anoa’i family. Featuring Roman Reigns, The Rock, Yokozuna, Jacob Fatu, and more, players can relive historic showdowns or flip the script and change the outcome of select match-ups. Dream matches between members of The Bloodline and WWE Superstars and Legends offer a ‘what if?’ fantasy element to settle fan debates and start fresh feuds, in addition to some surprises in store.”
The MyRISE mode also seems to have elements of fantasy sprinkled in, with established main-roster stars trying to come to Chef Michaels’ kitchen to run the company. Of course, we need to talk about the editions this year, which of course feature Roman Reigns fisting the mat (it’s what he does!) and will release on the 14th of March for both 8th and 9th generation consoles with “Dual-Gen entitlement.” Odd business phrasing 2K. That will be $69.99 and pre-orders (never pre-order) come with the Wyatt Sicks Pack, adding the group of that very name.
The Deadman Edition will be released with 7 days of advanced access and will cost $99.99 for 8th and 9th-generation consoles. No “dual entitlement” though. This one focuses on Limp Bizkit’s biggest fan, including the “Mattel Elite ‘Greatest Hits’ Undertaker, Original Undertaker (’90) Persona Cards and playable superstars, and usable Urn object, Undertaker ‘95 Mask cosmetic item for The Island […], and Brother Love manager.” You’ll also get the Season Pass which gets you all five post-launch DLC packs and 15,000 VC. Pre-orders (still don’t pre-order) get you a Cross-Gen base game edition of 2K24.
For $129.99 across 8th and 9th-generation consoles, you can pick up The Bloodline Edition, nabbing you both the standard and Deadman edition bonuses. You also get the Ringside Pass, which is just the Season Pass again but with the Superstar Mega-Boost. For character additions and otherwise, you’ll get The Rock Nation of Domination Pack to feature Dwayne in his Black Panther (the other one) gear, as well as the “Mattel Elite Series 114 Jey Uso and Mattel Elite ‘Greatest Hits’ Roman Reigns Persona cards and playable Superstars.”
As well as what is practically confirmation of how The Island works, “this pack includes a Family Above All Hoodie, OTC Shirt, Yeet tank Top[,] and Yeet Sunglasses cosmetic items for The Island.” Those on Steam can avoid this as you get 32,500 VC instead. All Bloodline Edition players will also get the WrestleMania 41 pack with “the WrestleMania 41 Arena, two WrestleMania 41 Main Event Superstars Persona cards and playable Superstars, and a new Superstar Persona Card (TBA), which will all be available Summer 2025.”
Releasing March 7th for The Bloodline Edition and The Deadman Edition, WWE 2K25 will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and of course on PC. The Standard edition is also available on all these platforms, but will launch instead on the 14th of March.
